Olive Rose Makeup: What I Actually Use + Why I’m Into Waterless Beauty

Why I’m Actually Excited About Olive Rose Makeup

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I’ve been on a long journey with clean beauty. Like… a decade long!
It first started when I had my oldest daughter and her skin was so sensitive - I looked into clean products for her. Then, I started to dive deep into clean beauty, researched ingredients, switched out everyday products more times than I can count, and I’ve even lobbied in D.C. for cosmetic reform. Like what we eat, I believe what we put on our skin matters, too. Our skin is our largest organ, after all!
So, when Olive Rose launched during New York Fashion Week last fall, my ears perked up immediately. Waterless makeup from Europe powered by polyphenols from the olive tree? Okayyyy… now we’re talking.
I already loved Olive Tree People’s waterless skincare (you can see my current skincare routine here), and if the makeup would be anything like it, I just knew I would fall in love.
What makes Olive Rose Different?
Most makeup is made primarily with water (which requires preservatives). Olive Rose is different because it’s a waterless makeup using olive tree ingredients instead of water.
The big thing behind Olive Rose is something called Hydroxytyrosol. It’s one of the most powerful antioxidants and can only found in the olive tree. And a big reason that olive trees are the “tree of life” and live up to 4,000 years! This antioxidant is naturally found in the olives and the olive leaves and is known for helping protect against oxidative stress and supporting healthy-looking skin.
Which means this makeup isn’t just sitting on your skin looking pretty. It’s also supporting your skin while you wear it. So while yes… it’s makeup… it also feels and acts like skincare at the same time.
My Honest Experience With Olive Rose
As a backstory - I am not a huge makeup person. That being said, I do love a natural makeup look that makes me look a little more awake and a little more pulled together … but still feel and look like myself. I want skin to still look like skin! Nothing cakey or overly done.
Olive Rose gives me exactly that! It has that natural look that somehow makes you look glowy and rested without feeling like you’re wearing a full face.
And maybe this is the mom in me, but I also love that it’s quick. I can throw it on in the morning after school drop-off and I am ready to conquer the day. And it makes me feel more like me.

Next up - I wanted to share my daily olive rose makeup staples. The four products I literally use every single day!
1. Skin Tint
This is probably my favorite product in the line because it gives that “your skin but better” look! It’s lightweight, glowy, and evens everything out without looking heavy or cakey.
I wear this almost every single day. It’s soooo silky smooth - that was my first thought the first time I used it. And a little goes a long way. It blends in really beautifully with fingers, a makeup sponge or a brush.

2. Concealer
This is what I grab for under my eyes and to help conceal blemishes and scarring. It has good coverage without feeling dry or thick, which is hard to find! I’ve tried several clean concealer options and since using Olive Rose, this has been my go-to.
3. Blush
This blush stick gives the prettiest healthy glow. It feels so fresh! I love so many of the shades, but Rosewood or Sweet Rose are probably the two I grab the most.
And as someone who looks tired approximately 99% of the time, blush helps tremendously!!!
4. Contour
I was honestly intimidated by contour for years because I thought it always looked harsh on me. And I didn’t really know how to apply it. But now, after using it for a year, I looove it!
The Olive Rose Contour is much softer and more natural-looking than a lot out there. It adds a little warmth and definition to your face. Almost like a sun-kissed glow!
You apply it on the sides of your nose, on the top of your forehead, and under your blush. I show how I do it here. You get the hang of it as you do it - and I am here to help.
