Bridget's Homemade Gingerbread Playdough

One week to Christmas!!! I cannot believe it. I wanted to get this post up ASAP because I know some of you have kiddos that will be home around Christmas and this is such a fun activity to make for them.

My friend Bridget, the co-owner of my favorite little gift/favor company, Surcee, made this playdough for my kids to play with for a little photoshoot. And I think they have played with it every day since. It’s fun with the spices and glitter.

I love homemade playdough, it’s easier than it sounds, and have shared about making it on my blog here. This gingerbread one in today’s post is a fun holiday twist!!!

Thank you Bridget for allowing me to share this! She first had this recipe when her kids were in preschool. She loved making it for neighbors and would gift with a few cookie cutters. I thought that was the cutest idea!!!!!

Bridget’s Homemade Gingerbread Playdough

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1/4 cup salt

  • 2 tsp. Cream of Tartar

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 Tbsp flavorless oil (like vegetable oil)

  • 1-2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

  • 1-2 tsp. Ground Ginger

  • 1 tsp Ground Nutmeg

  • 1 tsp Ground Cloves

  • 1 tsp glitter (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients (except the glitter) in a saucepan and keep stirring until it comes together in a ball.

  2. Turn out on a cutting board and let cool and kneed until it feels like a playdough. Add the glitter as you are kneading it.

  3. Store in airtight container or bag at room temperature.
