Homemade Fall Playdough

unnamed.jpg

First of all, I should preface this by saying that I am very surprised in myself to be the mom making playdough from scratch. Lately, I cannot even get homemade food on the table, or matching socks on my children… let alone have the energy and time to make playdough on the stove.

But here I am …

I am sharing this recipe because I have made it 3 times in the last month. It is that good!!

My 4 year old helps me make it, so it’s kind of like cooking together which she loves to do! Then they play away.

I would not be sharing this recipe with you if it wasn’t REALLY easy. So I swear, it’s no biggie to make. I was a little anxious about it the first time, but by the third time making it, it went better and faster each time.

Dylan got this recipe from her school, so I cannot take credit for it. But we love it so much I had to share with all of you!!!

Call yourself a SUPER MOM (or DAD) if you make this! And if you don’t have the energy or time to make it and just go buy playdough, you are still a SUPER MOM (or DAD)!! Kids are meant to use their imagination and create things and who cares how you get the materials or what you use!

Fall Playdough:

  • 1 cup white flour

  • 1/2 cup salt

  • 2 Tablespoons cream of tartar

  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 1 cup water

  • 1/2 tablespoon of ground cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice

    Directions:

    1. Whisk together the flour, salt and cream of tartar. Add to pot on stove and add water and oil. Heat together over medium heat, stirring constantly with wooden spoon. Add in the spice of choice as you stir. Stir until forms a soft ball. Take off heat and add food coloring of choice.

    2. For color ideas: RED is 20-30 drops of red food coloring, ORANGE is 10 drops of red and 20 drops of yellow, BROWN is 1 drop of red, 10 drops of yellow and 2-3 drops of blue.

    4. Take out and knead in the color until fully blended.
    5. Play away!

    6. When done, store in air-tight bag.
