Peanut Butter + Chocolate Rice Krispies

Rice krispies treats are super fun and relatively easy to make. Why I love them!

We spiced them up by adding 1/2 cup peanut butter to the traditional rice krispies treat recipe and then topping it with a chocolate and peanut butter layer.

I used natural peanut butter and brown riced cereal… and ate one for breakfast :)

ENJOY!

Peanut Butter + Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1 bag large marshmallows (10 ounces)

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter, plus an additional 1 1/2 Tablespoons for the chocolate topping

  • 6 cups crisped rice cereal

  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. In a large saucepan on the stove, melt the butter over medium heat. Add in the marshmallows and stir constantly until melted.

  2. Remove from the heat and add the 1/2 cup of peanut butter and stir well. Add in the cereal and stir until well combined.

  3. Carefully press into a 9-inch x 13-inch pan with buttered fingers. Be sure to grease the pan prior to pressing in the cereal mixture with either non stick spray or butter.

  4. Make the chocolate topping: Mix together the chocolate chips and 1.5 Tablespoons of peanut butter and microwave in 30 second increments until melted. Spread over the cereal mixture. Refrigerate until the chocolate is hardened and then cut into desired squares.
