Fall Stovetop Simmer Scent: Apple, Rosemary, Cinnamon

Photography by Katie Prestemon

I love stovetop simmer scents (see my different simmer scent posts here!). And I especially love them in the fall and around the holidays. It’s so cozy and makes the house smell amazing. Plus, they are a non-toxic way to scent your home - which I love!

I think that if fall had a signature scent, this would be it. It’s a little sweet, a little spicy, a little earthy … and it’s the kind of smell that makes your whole house feel like it just gave you a hug.

And the best part? You don’t need anything fancy! Just 3 ingredients and a stove.

What you will need: Apple, Rosemary, Cinnamon Sticks

Here’s how I do it… if you make this in your own home and share it, be sure to tag me at @urban.apron - I love to see it and connect!!!

Apple, Cinnamon + Rosemary Simmer Scent

  • 1 apple, sliced into rounds (no need to peel, slice it whole!)

  • 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary

  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks

  • Water

How to make it:

  1. Fill a small pot with water, about halfway full.

  2. Add your sliced apple rounds, rosemary and cinnamon sticks to the pot.

  3. Bring it to a gentle simmer on the stove. (not a roaring boil, just a light bubble). I then reduce to low once it’s at a light bubble and then just let it simmer.

  4. Let the simmer go as long as you’d like. Add water as needed when it gets low.

  5. If you don’t want to use the stove, you can also put this on an elective warmer or in a crockpot.
