Why Beautycounter + Recap of our time in DC this week!

A lot of you who have followed along the last several years and supported Beautycounter and me, so I wanted to be sure and relay what happened this week while we were in Washington D.C.!! If you are new, you can read about why I share Beautycounter in this blog post here.

This week, Beautycounter held over 60 meetings with Members of Congress - from all 50 states! We urged them to update the 1938 law that governs all of the products we all wear daily on our skin and urged them to support the bipartisan Safer Beauty Bill Package that will require more ingredient and manufacturing transparency for the industry, to prevent harmful chemicals in our everyday products. Right now, the FDA has no authority to recall products and there are many loopholes companies use to hide hundreds of chemicals and carcinogens in their products, wrecking havoc to our hormones and health. The outdated law does not give us the assurance that the products on the store shelf are safe, for instance, many shampoos on the market (including baby and kids shampoos) have formaldehyde releasing ingredients. The scientific evidence on the harmful effects of ingredients commonly used in our products is there. Now we need Congress to act.

Watch this short video here with a highlight of the trip!

When we asked Congress what we can do to make this a priority and bring change, they told us: “Just keep doing what you're doing." Keep educating, advocating and raising awareness. The more Congress hears from its constituents that they want sufficient laws to protect their health, the more Congress will make it a priority and get these safer beauty bills to the House and Senate.

To help continue to urge our local lawmakers to stand behind safer beauty laws, you can text “BETTERBEAUTY” to 52886 and follow the prompts to send an email to your local lawmaker. They see these emails!!!! Our work is really paying off, I saw it firsthand this week. Much of the change the past 10 years has also come from consumer pressure. We really do vote with our wallet!!!
