My post-baby morning workout routine + my go-to frothy coffee

If you like fitness and a good cup of coffee, then today's post is for you!...

I've always been a morning person. It’s the time of day I prefer to workout or run. It’s when I feel my best because I’m not weighed down by the long day. But, it was always so rushed. I was spending much of my morning at the gym, only to have time to run home, shower and race out the door to work with a mug of coffee in my hand. I actually knew that I was spiraling into a frenzy and would be burnt out by it all soon enough. I mean,  you can't keep that up 7 days a week forever! But it was how I’d always been. I think it started with an active youth and then playing 4 varsity sports in high school, I was always on the move.

Well something happened last year that sloooowed me down... like, way down.

A baby happened.

Chili & Lime Roasted Cashews

First of all, welcome to January! Wow, I can't believe another year has come and gone. I feel like it was just January 2017 and I was thinking about what I wanted to accomplish in the year ahead and now I'm here again facing another year. Maybe this is just how it is as we get older? Years fly by in a blink. So I'm definitely working on living in the moment in 2018. With my family - soaking up each dinner and holiday together. And especially with Dylan - watching her grow each day. Laying on the floor as she plays or holding her as I nurse, I watch her every move, trying to write it in my memory forever because I know she won't be this small forever. I know in a blink it'll be 2019 and I'll be writing a similar post about how fast the year went. Ahh life is crazy! But crazy wonderful.

Cashew Milk

About once or twice a week I manage to make homemade cashew milk... with a newborn. How is this possible you ask? Well, because it is seriously so easy!! And I actually prefer the taste to all non-dairy milks out there at the store... and once you try it, I think you will too! Especially in your morning coffee.

Time. We live in a world where it always feels that there is never enough time. Time to workout, time to cook, time to grocery shop, time to read, time to just relax. Why do we feel so pressed for time?

Maybe it's because we don't use our time efficiently. We don't dedicate enough time to the things that mean the most of us. We don't put time aside to just be on our own, for ourselves. Or for our family. This year, let's all cherish our time. Stop rushing from one task to the next, as if it's a race and the more you do, the more worth you have. Spend time doing what you want to do, not what you think you should be doing.

Roasted Pear & Cardamom Chia Pudding {sugar-free, dairy-free}

Holidays are sweet, there is no doubt about that. But, the extra sugar can take a toll. On your mood, your concentration, your energy.

Which is why I sometimes just step away for a minute...

I'm about done with my November Whole30 challenge. It was over 2 years ago that I first started doing Whole30, inspired by my sister who was doing it at the time. It's been my way to re-charge as I enter the colder months. Omitting sugars, dairy and grains from my diet and focusing on whole foods. If you've done a Whole30 you know that after the month, you continue with it as a lifestyle, tweaking it to fit your own body. (Remember - we are all different and what works for one person may not work for the next!)

Homemade Almond Milk {dairy-free}

Countless times I find myself grabbing a carton of non-dairy milk at the store, only to place it back at soon as I glance at the huge ingredient list, consisting mostly of additives and sugars.

(Side note: there are a few completely natural brands out there - such as New Barn - that fit the bill if I'm buying it!)

No fear... this milk saves the day! Totally natural and totally
